چکیده

The production of antisera against E. rhusiopathiae, the causative agent of swine erysipelas and human erysipeloid, has been hindered by the poor growth of the organism in media not enriched with blood serum. The data on its growth requirements, reviewed by Karlson and Merchant (1941), are limited to descriptions of behavior in routine media. An analysis of its growth essentials was therefore initiated in order to find a simple culture medium which would allow good growth and be free of the potentially dangerous antigens of serum. Such information might also help to clarify the taxonomic position of the organism.

Isolation of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae from aborted lambs in Iran: A case report

Ewe abortion and neonatal mortality are serious problems to sheep farmer. The objective of this paper was to report isolation of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae from aborted fetuses in a flock in Tehran, Iran. Abortion occurred in 10% of ewes in the flock. The fetuses were well developed and pinpoint, necrotic-like lesions were recorded on the placental cotyledons, whilst the inter -cotyledonary a...

Improved diagnostics and further investigation of condemnations and outbreaks associated with Erysipelothrix spp

The objective of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of a direct isolation method for Erysipelothrix spp. with a broth-based enrichment technique. Samples were obtained from three sources: (1) experimentally inoculated pigs, (2) porcine tissue samples submitted to the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and (3) tissues from condemned carcasses at an abattoir...

Isolation and Detection of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae and Its Distribution in Humans and Animals by Phenotypical and Molecular Methods in Ahvaz-Iran in 2015

Background: Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae (E. rhusiopathiae) is generally transmitted into the gastrointestinal tract of animals by the intake of contaminated food or water and causes great economic loss in agriculture worldwide. Some of the Erysipelothrix spp. are the causative agents of erysipeloid, which is an occupational infection in humans. The aim of the present study was to isolate E. rh...

Potential errors in recognition of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.

Here we describe four isolations of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae associated with polyarthralgia and renal failure, septic arthritis, classic erysipeloid, and peritonitis. Although the biochemical identification was straightforward in each case, recognition presented a challenge to the clinical microbiologist, since in three cases E. rhusiopathiae was not initially considered due to unusual clin...

Comparison of methods for detection of Erysipelothrix spp. and their distribution in some Australasian seafoods.

For many years, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae has been known to be the causative agent of the occupationally related infection erysipeloid. A survey of the distribution of Erysipelothrix spp. in 19 Australasian seafoods was conducted, and methodologies for the detection of Erysipelothrix spp. were evaluated. Twenty-one Erysipelothrix spp. were isolated from 52 seafood parts. Primary isolation of...
